Solstice sounds calm frayed Christmas nerves

Windham Hill Records: 1997

This review first appeared in the December 6, 1997 edition of the American Reporter.

More mood music for the winter than real holiday fare, Windham Hill's "A Winter's Solstice" series offers a nice bit of relief for those who have overdosed on Andy Williams and Anne Murray.

Windham Hill stars such as Liz Story, Jim Brickman, the recently deceased Michael Hedges, Will Ackerman, George Winston and David Arkenstone play quiet instrumental pieces that make for a soothing background after a day at the mall trying to find just the right present to please Aunt Edna or the moody teen-ager in your life.

Nothing earthshattering here – just contemplative songs for that point we all reach when one more rendition of "Silver Bells" is likely to drive us around the bend.
