Christmas, Southwestern style

What Child is This?
What Child is This?
By Esteban

Daystar Records: 1993

This review first appeared in the November 30, 1993 issue of the North County Blade-Citizen (now North County Times).

Segovia protégé Esteban brings a Southwestern flavor to this collection of Christmas material for solo acoustic guitar.

The song selection is standard – "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," "Carol of the Bells," "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" – but the arrangements are not. Esteban's mastery of guitar is astounding, his sense of timing perfect. And, as mentioned, his playing has a definite Southwestern swing to it, lending a warm regional feel to his performance.
