Rockin' around the Christmas tree

Hot Rod Holiday
Hot Rod Holiday
By various artists

EMI-Capitol Records: 1997

This review first appeared in the December 6, 1997 edition of the American Reporter.

Hot Rod magazine and Christmas – what could do more to evoke the holiday spirit than bikini-clad blondes draped over a low-cut '48 Chevy with double rollers and high-lift cams?

Okay, the packaging is silly, but as part of its classic rock n' roll series, Hot Rod magazine has put out a Christmas CD that is actually a lot of fun. But how far wrong could you go with the Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, Dion, Fats Domino, The Ventures and Gary U.S. Bonds? And the original version of "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms is a cool little gem.

Outside of the Elvis Christmas albums, this is probably one of the best rock n' roll holiday CDs available.
