A slice of Americana
A beatnik bluegrass outfit, The Acousticats play a funky, contemporary version of Anglo-American folk music. The traditionally instrumented quintet (two fiddles, mandolin, acoustic guitar and electric bass) runs through a set of originals and covers that capture a uniquely hip slice of Americana. As talented instrumentalists as the members of this group are, they may be even better on vocal harmonies. And their tight, rich arrangements show off their instrumental skills to best effect, while equally highlighting their singing. Mix in Cyrus Clarke's compositions, and you have one of the best alternative country albums of the year. |
