Power trio shows progressive sound
To start with, the drummer for this modernist jazz trio gets the nod for most bizarre stage name since TRI (Todd Rundgren Interactive): Forget the Artist Formerly Known as Prince. (What? He's going by Prince against? So that would make him, what, the Artist Formerly Known as the Artist Formerly Known as Prince?). Nope, Apt. Q-258 is too cool a name. But if these guys were bullshitters, the cool name just wouldn't matter. Luckily for the oddly monikered one's sense of chutzpah, this is the goods: Power trio jazz-rock fusion in the vein of Jeff Beck's early sides with Cozy Powell or Robin Trower's stuff with Jack Bruce, only with a funky Scandinavian side. And like those old "progressive rock" combos, these guys play long, intricately rambling songs almost an hour of music, and only two cuts, both around a half-hour long each. |
