Stevie Ray's biographer also solid singer
A confidante and authorized biographer of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Keri Leigh is a fine blues musician in her own right. Stylistically, Leigh is from the traditionalist school. Both her originals and her covers (the traditional "Locomotive Blues," Charlie Patton's "Green River," Ida Cox's "Wild Women Don't Get the Blues") are traditional, often Delta blues, if not strictly in structure then definitely in approach and sound. Leigh's vocals growl and wail with intensity, with quite a bit of resemblance to the singing of Joanna Connor. Guitarist/co-songwriter Mark Lyon is an outstanding slide player, and his work on National steel guitar provides much of the traditional sound on this CD. And and fellow guitarist Dave Horton both play excellent electric guitar as well, and the solos throughout show imagination and taste. This is a nice, balanced album, made by people who have an obvious affinity for rural blues and a knack for writing catchy songs in a traditional style. |
