A soundtrack for seduction
This release is a real treat. Sam McClain is one of the most vibrant, sensual soul singers out there, and this entire album is full of outstanding original songs destined to become R&B standards. The success starts with McClain's vocals, which are nasal but with a rich timbre. His phrasing and delivery are among the best place him alongside Al Green, Johnnie Taylor and Teddy Pendergrass. Organized Bruce Katz plays his Hammond B-3 to Booker T. Jones perfection, and guitarist Kevin Barry drives the rhythm with energy, while providing tasteful solos. McClain's brand of soul is slow romantic bordering on erotic. This isn't dance music; it's a soundtrack for seduction. |
