Strong solo outing by veteran sideman
Veteran Chicago sideman (Howlin' Wolf, Magic Sam) Eddie Shaw is on his own here, returning to his Mississippi Delta roots, both literally and figuratively. Literally, because for this album Shaw returned home to Mississippi from his adopted city of Chicago to record, and figuratively because the music here is far closer to that of Delta bluesmen than it is to the postwar electric blues Shaw has played the last three decades. Whether playing tenor sax or harmonica, or singing, Shaw is equally adept at laying down his vision of Southern blues/R&B on this strong solo album. |
