Tickell'ing the Northumbrian pipes

Kathryn Tickell has been recording Celtic music for 14 years, but is only now getting stateside attention with her first U.S. release.
Tickell plays Northumbrian pipes, a smaller cousin of the better-known Scottish bagpipes. They've a higher range and mellower timbre. While her arrangements are more traditional than many other contemporary Celtic bands, Tickell still likes to stretch out, tackling a Cajun waltz and a blues reel (with harmonica player Brendan Power).
Most of the 11 songs were written by Tickell, and most are in a general Gaelic vein. She's an imaginative player on pipes, and she and her band achieve a nice ambience.
