Irreverent holiday fun

It's Christmas, Man!
It's Christmas, Man!
By Brave Combo

Rounder Records: 1991

This review first appeared in the December 11, 1992 issue of the North County Blade-Citizen (now North County Times).

The irreverent Brave Combo, which specializes in excelling at traditional folk musics from across the globe, attacks Christmas music this year.

Until you've heard "O, Christmas Tree" as a samba, "Little Drummer Boy" as a guaguanco, or "The Christmas Song" as a ska tune, you haven't really appreciated the richness and diversity of traditional Christmas songs.

Although Brave Combo is militantly irreverent, they're not disrespectful, and each of the songs presented here works well in its non-traditional arrangement. It is one of the funnest holiday collections ever released.
